Heat-resistant Steel

Non-scaling and heat-resistant steel grades are characterized by the formation of a dense oxide layer which prevents any further oxidation. Furthermore, non-scaling and heat-resistant steels display great strength even at high temperatures. To achieve these properties, they are alloyed with silicium (Si) and aluminium (Al). By adding nickel (Ni), the scale is rendered less brittle, thus improving its ability to withstand temperature fluctuations. The high strength at higher temperature levels is achieved by the addition of carbide formers such as chromium (Cr), molybdenum (Mo) and vanadium (V).
